Wood Middle School Modernization

At the modernized Wood Middle School, three new buildings frame a central quad. The overall site design, both within the bounds of the architecture and around their perimenter, encourages middle school socialization through its many and varied gathering spaces. A circular turf lawn, the centerpiece of the quad, welcomes a variety of uses—from everyday socializing to large events. The curved seatwalls throughout the site create focused spaces well-suited to outdoor learning and informal gathering. 124 trees of 25 different species add needed biodiversity and shade to the expansive site. Planting areas boast native and adaptive species, as well as bioswales along Grand Street. Trees and planting allow for greater privacy in the teachers patio and the special needs student yard.
