Carducci Associates has designed West Plaza as a multi-use public space that also serves as a central node linking existing art walks, surrounding plazas and Foss Creek. As water trickles down the textured walls, visitors feel as if they are within the river, surrounded by the sound of running water. Stones rise out of the plaza like river rocks, connecting the river theme throughout the space. This river theme design continues through the east-west corridor toward Healdsburg Avenue. The project will feature artistic paving and multiple locations for the display of local art elements and will involve a renovation of the grassy area and existing rose garden along with restoration of Foss Creek for wildlife habitat. The wildlife areas feature integrated interpretive signage to increase awareness about Foss Creek. A grape leaf amphitheater pavilion provides a secondary event venue while acknowledging the city’s artistic character and vineyard surroundings.
