Sonoma Academy's new Visual and Performing Arts Center (PAC) embeds indoor and outdoor learning areas around the new building. Our proposed landscape design emphasized informal and formal opportunities for outdoor classroom space for various-sized gatherings, detailed rustic materials as a reference to Sonoma County's agricultural background, and planned space to integrate future art installations. The landscape-pattern-language complements the architecture through a linear pattern when closest to the PAC but a curvilinear pattern as it radiates to the organically-shaped gardens near the Guild and Commons Building. The Founders Grove - beyond the upper plaza - features several trees with edible fruit for students to harvest and also features several productive gardens - terraced along the grand staircase – with intention for integration within the school's curriculum.
