A combination of two elementary schools took some creative thinking to meld the campuses into a cohesive environment. Sharing the playground areas, lawns, library and multipurpose room, Carducci Associates’ work included new playgrounds for kindergarteners and 5-12 year olds’ play areas, an edible garden to foster land and cultivation stewardship for students, and renovations to the lawn area that functions as a park which opens to the public when school is not in session. The great lawn offers opportunities for relaxation, gathering and unstructured play activities. Native and drought-tolerant planting ensures a sustainable landscape that will thrive with little to no water.
