The award-winning Healdsburg High School Modernization introduced a new palette of indoor and outdoor learning environments after an extensive demolition of outdated facilities. During Phase 2, Carducci Associates collaborated with Healdsburg High School District and the architect to transform the site of a former building wing into a serpentine, multifunctional space. Responding to the school’s program and schedule needs, the landscape works as both a drop-off site and an outdoor classroom. Large basalt stone seating and a formal orchard planting of fruitless olive trees reflect Sonoma County’s agricultural identity. At the same time, synthetic turf and concrete paving enable universal access and reduce irrigation and maintenance.
