Transforming an under-utilized area of the Cupertino High School campus, the two-story science laboratory and classroom buildings were completed in February 2018. Quattrocchi Kwok Architect’s Folia building solution was chosen for their system efficiencies and cost-effectiveness. Carducci Associates was able to tie the buildings together into a cohesive educational space with a central courtyard and collaboration space. At the center of the courtyard is a stormwater bioswale with bridges to connect the maker space and science labs. Carducci also included bespoke curved benches to unify the space with the adjacent quad. A synthetic turf mounded lawn and raised bed gardening area compliment the new building and provide an outdoor gathering space.
